FAQ Is this game a [insert supernatural fictional media] game? Nope! The original core concept of the game was once very loosely based on the original World of Darkness setting and idea but as you can see, it's come a very long way from that, and is now an entity all its own. This is not based on any show, fandom, book, etc. It is not Anne Rice, not Anita Blake, Supernatural, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Dresden Files, or Twilight. I'm a bit confused on how there are evil angels and demons...aren't they the same thing? Not exactly. (The Fallen aren't evil, they just...fell.) The Unraveling does not base its races or back-story on any one religion, book, legend, source or group of stories. It does draw heavily from various mythic traditions, most of them stories and cultures that influenced Western literature and media. All angels, demons, fae, vampires, etc. are a hodge-podge of different sources, shaped to fit the needs of a role-playing game. Even though it isn't a Supernatural/Buffy/Anne Rice game, can I make Sam or Buffy or Lestat anyway? Sorry, no. All the characters in The Unraveling must be original characters of your own creation. Any and all 'fandom' characters will be denied, as will characters that seem to hew too closely to some fandom source. What exactly does 'other' mean? The Other category on the races page is for any mythical/supernatural creature that doesn't quite fit into any of the other groups, but is either one-of-a-kind, or doesn't exist in numbers enough to warrant its own section. Elementals, transformed/cursed humans, skinwalkers, djinn, Nymphs, etc. So...mages aren't human? Nope! Well, yes and no. Humans are humans, average as can be. They are exceptional in that they are mortal, and possess that whole 'Human Nature' thing. The only humans with anything resembling magic are those with fae blood, and the mods would be happy to work with you on figuring out exactly how this works - it's more of a 'knack' than anything flashy. Changelings aren't technically human, but they almost always believe that they are. Your characters are perfectly welcome to present themselves as mages/wizards/mediums/whatever if they like, though - that makes a lot of sense. |
